Google is looking to expand the offering of the Android Os,and has aggressively taken aim at emerging markets, such as India and China, with cheaper handsets catering to the untapped masses.Andy Rubin, vice president for Engineering at Google, recently commented about the potential of these markets:"the down-market opportunity is about to happen. It's actually quite a revolution".Apart from low cost handsets,Google intends to provide payment gateways for application developers, allowing them them easily accept payments ans sell things like subscriptions.Low-cost handsets markers have already started making noises about their upcoming Android devices, such as Huawei,L.G,and Samsung.
Lemon mobiles,a relatively recent entrant into the Indian mobile market, has also announced a low-cost Android 1.6 mobile, called the P1,which stands for Professional One.
